Hailee Steinfeld is putting a fresh spin on a 1980s rock favorite with her new version of The Cars’ hit song Magic, recorded for Disney’s upcoming animated film Hexed.
Released October 23, the cover brings a modern pop sound to the 1984 classic while maintaining the upbeat energy that made the original a recognizable hit. The song is part of the soundtrack for the new animated adventure.
Steinfeld also stars in Hexed, lending her voice to Billie Doe, a teenage girl who discovers she has magical abilities. Her journey takes her into a mysterious world filled with witches and unexpected discoveries.
The film features a voice cast that includes Rashida Jones, Jodie Foster, and Walton Goggins.
Originally released by The Cars in 1984, Magic became one of the band’s best-known songs and remains a familiar part of classic rock radio.
For Steinfeld, the recording adds another musical project to a career spanning pop music, film, and television.
The complete Hexed soundtrack is scheduled for November 20, ahead of the movie’s theatrical release on November 25, 2026.
