An independent horror film titled Good Boy has landed a wider theatrical release from IFC after its trailer garnered over 1 million views on YouTube. The haunted house movie, told from the perspective of a dog, was previously planned for a limited theatrical run. But the overwhelming response to the trailer, which features the real-life pet of writer-director Ben Leonberg, has led to the expanded release. Good Boy stars Indy, the director’s dog, as a canine trying to warn his owner, played by Shane Jensen, of supernatural forces invading their rural farmhouse. The film premiered at SXSW in March to positive reviews and currently holds a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The viral trailer sparked concerns for Indy’s wellbeing, with Google searches about the dog’s fate jumping over 2,000%. Good Boy also stars Larry Fessenden, Arielle Friedman, Anya Krawcheck, and Stuart Rudin, and will hit theaters on October 3rd. (EW)
